Friends of Fort Knox 2008 Special Events Schedule Preliminary Friends of Fort Knox special event schedule. Check back often for additional events. Unless otherwise noted, regular Fort admission fees apply March 22nd , Saturday, Noon until 2 PM, Great Easter Egg Hunt 2008 : Thousands of Easter eggs will be hidden throughout the Fort grounds for children to search for. Many eggs will be eligible for prizes! This Friends of Fort Knox fundraiser is $3 per person (rain/snow date 3/29). April 19th, Saturday, 10 A.M. until noon, Park Day clean-up Project: Held in conjunction with the Civil War Preservation Trust and the History Channel. Volunteers are needed to rake, sweep and pickup winter debris. T-shirts and a Fort Tour will be provided to volunteers. April 19th, Saturday, Annual Society for Creative Anachronism field exercise (not open to public)
May 1st, Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory, Prospect, Maine reopens. The Fort Knox State historic site features one of America's best-preserved examples of seacoast fortifications constructed in the 1800s. The new Penobscot Narrows Observatory, the tallest bridge observatory open to the public in the world, boasts breathtaking views of the Penobscot Bay area. Visitors to the observatory ride an elevator up 420' feet on Maine's fastest elevator for incredible views. Admission to these attractions is only $5 for adults and $3 for children. May 31st, Saturday , Maine Foster Care Family Day July 5th and 6th, Paranormal/Psychic Faire, Saturday and Sunday: Meet with people who believe in things unusual. This unique event features renowned crytozoologist and author, Loren Coleman (often seen on the History and Travel Channel), psychics, ghost hunters, UFOologists and dowsers. July 18 and 19, Friday/Saturday - Full Moon Madness at the Penobscot Narrows Observatory or Moon Over the Penobscot - The Penobscot Narrows Observatory will be open at night to provide spectacular views of the full moon and surrounding area. The observatory will only be open four nights this season, so don't miss out on this unique experience. Admission is $5 per person* and the event begins at 8:15 PM and ends at 12:00 midnight (30 minute maximum stay times apply). Rain/cloud dates are 7/20 and 7/21. *In that this is a special event, Park Passes, Senior Passes, etc. do not apply towards the admission fee. July 19th and 20th, Saturday and Sunday, 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. - Granite cutting demonstration. This event will feature the skills necessary in the construction of Fort Knox.
July 26th and 27th, Saturday and Sunday, 20th Maine Company ‘B’ Civil War reenactment and Bucksport Chamber of Commerce Bucksport Bay Festival. August 2nd, Saturday, Pirate Day 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Swashbuckling sword fighting costumed pirates, best dressed pirate costume (noon), talk like a pirate contest (1 P.M.) and treasure hunts. Regular Fort admission and a $2 event donation requested. Contests are for all ages and prizes will be awarded. Arrrrrgh matey! August 8, Friday , 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Rock the Fort with tunes from Waldo County rock band “Oversoul” who will play classic rock music and feature a light show, event admission $5 per person. August 18-22 Monday through Friday Archaeological Field School - Session Two Limit 15 students per session. The field school will focus on a foundation of one of the "out" buildings of unknown use present during the construction phase of Fort Knox. The field school will offer students hands-on excavation techniques accompanied by classroom sessions that will include an introduction to historical archeology, evolution of U.S. Seacoast defenses and the construction and history of Fort Knox. September 6th , Saturday, The 7th Annual Medieval Tournament: Knights will have armored combat, medieval music played, arts and science displays will be on hand and an archery demonstration will take place.
![]() October, 17/18 and 24/25 and 10/31, Friday and Saturday, 5:30 to 9 PM, Fright at the Fort 2008: Visitors are led through the dark passageways of Fort Knox where indescribable things lurk in the shadows, creating screams of fright. Admission is $5 per person and additional information on Fright at the Fort 2008, may be found on the fortknox.maineguide.com official Fright at the Fort web site. Volunteers welcome!
